I enjoy creating with glass to make windows for particular fixed locations, or making free standing pieces that lean more towards fine art. I am totally absorbed throughout the whole process and love how a final piece comes together through the various stages. Discovering the initial location of where the glass will be situated, through the design process and onto all the various methodical practical processes. The creation of these pieces is all consuming and gives me a place to escape to and focus all my energies.
I like working with people’s initial ideas and dreams, interpreting these ideas and translating them into a final completed piece of art.
Working with glass is challenging at times. It involves problem solving to overcome the fragility and limitations of the medium to create the desired result.
I love working with all the various colours and textures of glass and discovering how different pieces of glass interact with each other. In particular their luminosity and ever changing effects are constantly fascinating.
The creative journey is undulating and ever evolving and a finished piece will always surprise me. It has the ability to subtly change throughout the day, reacting to different lighting and the changing moods of the day and the seasons. The play of light in the environment keeps the work alive, fresh and kinetic.
